Recensione: "Manwhore (A Ferro Family Short Story)" di H.M. Ward

Paige è un avvocato, deve distruggere Mr Ferro in un’aula di tribunale. E’ accusato di aver ucciso sua moglie incinta e il bambino che aspettavano. Eppure Paige, nonostante sia decisa a distruggerlo non solo davanti alla società, ma anche davanti alla legge, non sembra convinta della sua colpevolezza. Lo guarda, e anche se una parte di lei vorrebbe vederlo marcire in carcere, l’altra parte di lei si sofferma su quell’uomo troppo bello per essere un mostro.
Una donna che ha visto morire la madre in modo atroce, e per questo arrabbiata con il genere maschile, che frequenta un night club dove svela una parte di sé stessa… una parte che Sean Ferro troverà…

Eccoci qui alla recensione. Devo ammettere che l’autrice è stata sin da subito capace di incollarmi al libro. Mai dimenticherò gli occhi color zaffiro di Sean, che sembrano la parte più importante ed espressiva di quest’uomo, che anche se accusato di un omicidio orrendo, appare distaccato e glaciale. Eppure, il colore glaciale di quegli occhi profondi, dove la  nostra Paige si perde come fosse gettata in un mare blu dal quale non volerebbe più uscire, esprime seduzione e incanto.

Ambientato a New York, questo romanzo mette a confronto l’etica morale con la passione. Lui è un uomo molto bello, dai capelli corvini e dal corpo snello ma forte, ricco, che pare “congelato” di fronte a ogni sentimento.

Paige incarna la classica ragazza da biblioteca, carina ma imperfetta, che ha faticato per studiare e raggiungere la laurea in legge, giovane ma molto caparbia. Ama definirsi un’amante del “grigio”, ossia della via di mezzo, poiché a differenza del collega David per lei nulla è bianco o nero. Quando incontra Sean si sente combattuta tra un passato che non vuole ricordare e affrontare e una realtà che la costringerà a farlo.

La vicenda si snoda tra aule di tribunale, dove Paige scruta con attenzione quell’uomo straordinariamente bello accusato di essere un mostro, alla casa di Paige, che condivide con un’inquilina insegnante di yoga, Jess, molto saggia, al Club.

Eccoci arrivati al dunque. Il Club Noir. La prima volta che Paige incontra Sean fuori dal tribunale lo trova proprio qui, dove lei si rifugia, combattuta tra il senso etico e la voglia di sfogare i suoi demoni interiori, per “passare tempo speciale”. L’ultimo piano di questo edificio, infatti, nasconde una zona… oscura.

Tra un bicchiere e l’altro, i due si incontrano al bar del Club e prima di quanto ci si immagini, l’attrazione tra i due sfocerà in qualcosa di piccante. La giovane dona, però, decisa sin all’inizio a distruggerlo, presto si troverà a desiderarlo fino a pensare di impazzire.

Ottimo libro del genere new adult, anzi, credo uno dei migliori che abbia letto ultimamente. Ricco di suspense e sensualità fino all’ultima riga. L’aria da seduttore di Sean ha ammaliato anche me. Ogni volta che Paige lo incontrava, io ero lì e ne restavo ugualmente incantata e affascinata. Non dimenticherò mai il suo sguardo blu e profondamente sensuale, mentre la sicurezza e l’elegante modo di rapire di quest’uomo mi hanno davvero lasciata senza fiato più volte.

Non posso non assegnare, perciò, meritatissimi cinque cupcakes a questa storia bellissima, davvero imperdibile!

La storia finisce lasciando aperta ogni ipotesi, motivo per cui io sono già seduta sul divano, kindle in mano, alle prese con la lettura di the Arrangement!

Here we are at the review. I have to admit that the author was immediately able to make me fall in love with the book. I’ll never forget the Sean’s sapphire eyes, which seem the most expressive part of this man, who appears detached and glacial. Still, the icy color of those deep eyes, where our Paige is lost as she has been thrown into a blue sea from which she would not  get out, expresses seduction and charm.

Set in New York, this novel confronts the moral ethics with a passion. He is a very handsome man, raven-haired and slender body, rich, that seems "frozen" in front of every feeling. Paige embodies the classic library girl, pretty but imperfect, which has struggled to study and achieve a law degree, young but very stubborn. Shee likes to call herself a lover of the "gray", ie the middle road, because unlike Mr David for her nothing is black or white. When she meets Sean she gets feel fought between a past that does not want to remember and deal with and a reality that will force her to do so.

The story winds its way in courtrooms, where Paige carefully scans this extraordinarily handsome man accused of being a monster, Paige's house, who shares with a tenant yoga teacher, Jess, very wise, then to the Club.

Here we are to the point. Club Noir. The first time Paige meets Sean outside the court she finds him right here, where she takes refuge, torn between a sense of ethics and the desire to vent her inner demons, to "take special time." The top floor of this building, in fact, hides a dark area...

Between a glass and the other, the two meet at the Club Bar and sooner than we imagine, the attraction between them will lead to something spicy. The young woman, however, decided from the beginning to destroy him, soon will would like him up to think of going crazy.

Great book like new adult, indeed, I think one of the best I've read lately. Full of suspense and sensuality until the last row of the book. The seductive power of Sean has bewitched me too. Whenever Paige met him, I was there and I remained equally enchanted and fascinated. I will never forget his blue and deeply sensual gaze, while the self-confidence and elegant way to carry off that this man have really left me breathless several times.

I have to give, therefore, deserved five cupcakes to this beautiful story, really unmissable!

The story ends leaving open any hypothesis, which is why I'm already sitting on the couch, kindle in the hands, struggling with the reading of “the Arrangement”!
